Life’s too short to be unhappy in your relationship.

I know how hard you’ve been working to make things work in your relationship on your own. Even if it seems hopeless, you may be surprised by how transformative a little education and guidance can go toward improving the state of your union. My work with couples draws primarily on my training with the Gottman Institute, which is the gold standard of evidence-based, scientifically proven methods for elevating connection, communication and vitality in your relationship. Besides the Gottman methodology, I draw from an eclectic background with elements of attachment and personality theory, and how each partner’s individual psychology and background influences the family ecosystem. I don’t “take sides” and I am committed to giving everyone in the room a chance to be heard, understood and validated.

If there are elements of substance abuse, domestic violence, ADHD/neurodiversity, personality disorders, addiction, chronic illness or mood disorders present in your relationship, I can help. I am prepared to walk you through affairs and their aftermath, issues with raising children, sexual issues, financial infidelity, and so much more.

In addition to traditional marriage counseling, I can help with non traditional relationships, facilitating a divorce or separation, navigating any major life events or changes, or with “pre-marriage” counseling for new couples.

At this time I am unable to take insurance for couples work. As such, I’m mindful that seeking out professional council can be a big investment. Unlike individual counseling, couples’ work tends to be more structured and solution-focused. While there are no deadlines or cut offs, my general goal is to take you through assessment, rebuilding your relationship and then sending you off with the tools for maintaining what you’ve learned in 4-12 weeks. Additionally, some clients choose to engage in couples’ counseling on an every other week cadence, in which case I will work with you on exercises and readings to supplement treatment and ensure you get the most out of your experience.

Here’s some of what you can expect from the first few sessions working with me:

  1. Initial consulation, where we cover what brings you to therapy, I get background on the relationship and we make a plan moving forward.

  2. For the next two sessions, I will meet with you individually to get a broader perspective on who you are and where you come from.

  3. In the third session, I will share the results of my assessment and we will continue to build a treatment plan tailored to your relationship.

  4. From there, I will introduce tools of communication and connection, work on issues as they arise, provide a safe place for conflict and resolution, and in the process, teach you both essential skills to continue practicing what you’ve learned for years to come.
